How we support new students

All students joining Springwood High School follow our induction programme.  If a student's English is already fluent, they will follow our standard induction process led by their year office.

If a student requires additional support with understanding English, we have a dedicated member of staff based in the Bridge who supports students transferring to mainstream British education.   If a student is non- speaker - or they require additional support with their English - there is more assistance.

During their first few days, they will stay in the Bridge for the whole day to settle in and get to know the school. Over the next few days, they will learn how to log in to the computer, be given access to their school email address and will be shown how to navigate Bromcom and other learning platforms.  All important login details are saved in a draft email in case they forget.

It is during this time that a buddy system is established so they have a friendly face that they recognise as they start to navigate around the school.  Extra English lessons are implemented immediately, according to their individual needs, such as; reading, writing, speaking, vocabulary or grammar support.  In addition, during lessons, staff check and ensure students can find their way to the classrooms, toilets and their way around the school.
