Inspiring Construction Careers With A Visit To Florence Fields Development
On 18th June, eight Year 9 students from Springwood School visited the Borough Council’s ongoing Florence Fields development, a vibrant project comprising 226 new homes.
The visit provided students with an insightful look into the various stages of modern housing construction, from nearly completed show homes to the foundation work for upcoming properties.
During the tour, students had the opportunity to explore different phases of the development, gaining a first-hand understanding of the construction process.
Cllr Alistair Beales, leader of the borough council, said:
“Inviting Springwood students to see the construction work taking place here is the right thing to do to encourage young people to see the opportunities in this growing industry. I believe opportunities like this foster a greater understanding of the development process that shapes our communities.”
Michael Saunders, Operations Manager for Lovell, the main contractor on the project, led the tour and spoke passionately about construction careers:
"The construction sector offers a world of diverse opportunities—from design and engineering to project management as well as trades. By investing in skills development, embracing environmental responsibility and embedding a passion for the industry early in young people, we not only build structures, but also a more sustainable and inclusive future."
The Borough Council and Lovell remain committed to engaging with local schools and inspiring the next generation of builders and environmental advocates.
