The Concert Band, Big Band and several soloists (Ezra Nwobodo, Keira Samways, Georgia Dawson and Jess Taylor) performed at the Town Hall on Sunday afternoon as part of the rededication ceremony and celebration for the King's Lynn branch of the Royal British Legion. James Playford also played the Last Post and Reveille during the service at Lynn Minster.
The pupils were amazing and played outstandingly. There were many civic dignitaries and members of the British Legion from Lynn and further afield across Norfolk, and all will have gone away with a very positive view of the schools and the quality of the music. Several expressed surprise that so many talented musicians could come from one school.
All across our area, we have seen music systematically downgraded and dropped in schools. Music is one of the things that gives Springwood such an outstanding reputation in the community and I am very proud of our pupils and what they achieve. In the next few weeks, Springwood musicians will be performing twice for Festival Too, providing music for a King's Lynn lawyers summer party, taking our choir to the National Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham and, of course, playing at the Sandringham Flower Show.
