COMPULSORY TASK:

Research the general elections of 1997 and 2024 and answer the following (1000 words) in detail:

“The electorate’s voting behaviour has not changed in the 27 years between 1997 and 2024.” 

Analyse and evaluate this statement. 

Consider the following:

  • Turnout
  • Who won?
  • Voting behaviour by demographic; class, age, gender and ethnicity.
  • Analyse in detail any trends that you can identify from this data.

OPTIONAL EXTENSION:

Over the summer, keep abreast of current affairs by consulting multiple sources of political news every day, such as broadsheet newspapers, the BBC website and weekly political magazines…

Of the news articles you read over the summer, keep one that you found particularly interesting and thought-provoking. Answer the following questions:

  1. What is the news article about? Summarise in no fewer than 200 words.
  2. Why did you select this news article? What does it tell you about politics in the UK?
