French

COMPULSORY TASK:

  • Speaking : Prepare a 5 minute oral presentation – you can do this with visual aids/on powerpoint /using images. The topic must be either La Famille or Music in a French-speaking country of your choice.
  • Writing : Film Review in French - watch a French film/s (with English subtitles.) You can, but do not have to, choose one from those listed below. Write a short resumé in French of the storyline. Describe the setting / scenery, comment on the actors, describe particular scenes or incidents (good or bad ) and give your own opinions. 
    • La Haine  : Mathieu Kassovitz
    • Caché : Michael Haneke
    • La Promesse : Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne
    • Le dernier Métro or/ Les 400 coups: Francois Truffault
    • Un heros très discret : Jacques Audiard
    • Les Intouchables: Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano
      Or any French film of your choice. Please TALK TO YOUR TEACHERS SHOULD YOU WANT TO BORROW A FILM FOR THE SUMMER. 
      Begin a log of all films watched with brief description of storyline / main actors etc.
  • Grammar : Complete exercises in the Grammar Booklet using different tenses (pages 3 to 23 included)
  • Reading and Listening : Read the news in French using the following links

OPTIONAL EXTENSION:

Use a range of websites to keep on top of your French revision and use any opportunity you have to read in French or watch French films and TV programmes. Read through the PIXL booklet and complete as much of it as you can.

languagesonline has lots of grammar activities.

resources.wjec.co.uk - although this is the WJEC exam board website, it is full of interactive activities for KS4 and KS5 topics that correspond with Edexcel topics (including film and book studies) and links to practise grammar.

lyricstraining.com - a fun way to learn French vocabulary by listening to song lyrics. 

channel4.com - Channel 4 have films and tv series in French with the option of subtitles to help develop listening and reading skills. 

Netflix  - On Netflix there are lots of programmes you could watch in French with subtitles. There is a film called L'ascension that shows the powers of social media and life in the banlieues of Paris. Another film Bienvenue à MarlyGomont features the story about a Congolese doctor escaping dictatorship and moving to a French village.
