COMPULSORY TASK:
Task 1:
Begin IRP research. Settle on a suitable topic and find two sources in Spanish that will be used for your 2-minute presentation. Complete a draft version of the IRP form (click here) with 6-10 key points from your research.
Task 2:
Watch/Listen/Read the Spanish news. Find news stories that correspond to each of the following modules and write a summary of the key information. You must have at least one news story summarised for each of the themes below:
- Changing family structures
- The world of work
- Tourism
- Music and Dance
- Festivals
- Immigration
Task 3:
Research the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent Franco dictatorship. Make notes in English on your findings. – Consider questions such as:
- What were the main political and social causes that led to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936?
- What role did Francisco Franco play during the Civil War, and how did he consolidate power afterwards?
- What were the main characteristics of the Franco dictatorship?
- What were the long-term effects of the Franco regime on Spanish society, and how has Spain dealt with this legacy since the transition to democracy?
Task 4:
Continue reading the novel and answering questions from the comprehension booklet. Try to get as far ahead as you can with it. You must read at least to the end of chapter 8.
Please submit the tasks to your teacher on the first lesson in September.

OPTIONAL EXTENSION:
Use a range of websites to keep on top of your Spanish revision and use any opportunity you have to read in Spanish or watch Spanish films and TV programmes.

- Languagesonline - Has lots of grammar activities
- Rtve - This contains news articles, video clips, documentaries and TV programmes in Spanish.
- Lyrics Training - A fun way to learn Spanish vocabulary by listening to song lyrics.
