STEMM

STEMM at Springwood focuses on giving students the opportunity to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine beyond the curriculum.

With the increasing demand from higher education institutions and employers for students with skills that can be applied in these areas, our approach is hands-on and generates tangible outcomes for those involved. With science and technology at the forefront of recent events, students can really see the benefits of exploring STEMM for their futures.

For students in years 7 & 8 we run a weekly STEMM club focusing on different areas of science, reflecting the interests of the participants. Students attending regularly are able to earn a Discovery CREST Award as they take part.

In addition, we are able to provide dedicated curriculum time during year 8 to allow students to complete the Bronze CREST Award in small groups. Their projects focus on sustainable living and renewable energy.

As students move into year 9 and beyond we are able to offer the Silver CREST Award through independent project based learning. We continue to develop a range of STEMM activities to complement and enhance our curriculum at both KS4 and KS5.

The CREST Award is supported by the British Science Association and is widely recognised by both
Universities and employers. They are flexible, student-led awards that have proved to both improve academic outcomes for students and help lead more students into considering STEMM subjects beyond KS4.
