Hairdressing
COMPULSORY TASK:
Research the following health and safety Acts and explain the importance of these in the hairdressing industry. Create a health and safety folder covering the following Acts:
- Health & Safety at Work Act
- Electricity at Work Act
- COSHH
- RIDDOR
- Correct firefighting equipment for a chemical and electrical fire
- Salon policy and guides (salon rules)
Communication - Explain the importance of professional communication in the salon and the different types of communication (verbal and non-verbal)
Explain why a professional image is important in a salon environment and what can happen if professionalism is not followed.
Please submit the task to your teacher on the first lesson in September. You can email h.auker@springwoodhighschool.co.uk for any questions relating to the task or the course.
OPTIONAL EXTENSION:
- Research the functions of the skin - Draw and label the skin
- Research the cross sections of the Hair - Draw and label the hair
- Explain the functions of each part of the hair and skin.
- Explain the importance of skin testing prior to a colouring service. Explain the consequences of not doing a skin test. Include how this should be recorded to comply with data protection.
COURSE MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Please make sure you are organised and ready to start with a salon placement, uniform and kit for September.
Salon Placement
Please ensure you start in September with a salon placement. You are required to attend the placement every week for a full day for the whole course. You will need a copy of the salon's public liability insurance document once you have found your placement. Please bring this with you to your first lesson.
Kit
Please ensure your kit is ordered at the start of the holidays to make sure you have it ready for September. Make sure you state left or right-handed scissors when ordering.
Uniform
Please make sure you order your tunic ready for September and ensure you attend in smart black trousers (no jeans), black full-in shoes (no open toes). Canvas shoes or trainers are not allowed.
