Springwood students win photography contest
Amateur photographers of all ages had the opportunity to show off their skills when the West Norfolk Academies Trust launched its inaugural photography competition – and Springwood High School swept the board, with winners in three different categories.
Open to all staff and pupils across the Trust’s 11 member schools, the contest took as its theme ‘Our Environment’, and received a total of 272 photographs from 182 different entrants.
Categories ranged from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 5 and also included staff working within the WNAT schools, which comprise Marshland, St Clement’s, Smithdon, and Springwood High Schools, along with Clenchwarton Primary, Gaywood Primary, Heacham Infant, Heacham Junior, Snettisham Primary, Walpole Cross Keys Primary, and West Lynn Primary.
Thirty finalists attended the competition final at Springwood, where Allan Livingstone from the King’s Lynn and District Camera Club was on hand to announce the winners and present them with their prizes.
Seven-year-old Summer Fisher from Clenchwarton was the youngest winner, taking the Key Stage 1 category, while Lilley Lawrence, aged nine, from Walpole Cross Keys won the Key Stage 2 competition.
Among the worthy runners-up were Isabella Wells, also from Clenchwarton, Alice Shread from West Lynn, Dolcie Cooper from Gaywood, Holly Hall from Heacham Junior, and Poppy Smith from Snettisham.
Springwood topped the remaining student categories, with 12-year-old Aimee-May Wyatt winning the Key Stage 3 prize, and 16-year-olds Maddy Taylor and Fern Prior winning Key Stages 4 and 5 respectively.
Runners-up included Armanda Krasnekovas, Emily Dobson and Evie Whitmore from Springwood; Erin Wenner, Pamela Jones, and Jessica Scott from Marshland; Lois Chapman, Sam Tennant, Emma Watson, Katie Madder, and Aimee-Jane Grange from St Clement’s; and Sasha Maskova, Scarlett Chapman, and Lillian King from Marshland.
Site Assistant Sylvia Mewes from Marshland came first in the Staff category, beating Carol Jones from Walpole Cross Keys, Jess Morgan from Heacham Junior, Victoria Mann from Springwood, Madeleine Butters from Smithdon, and Lisa Rigby from St Clements.
Each winner received a copy of their photo, printed and mounted by the Camera Club, along with a £20 Amazon voucher.
“It’s very important to offer a range of opportunities within WNAT,” said Trust Manager Sam Simms. “This was something new, and we intend to do it again next year.”
