Cyclathon for West Norfolk Mind

Springwood Sixth Form hold a Cyclathon in aid of West Norfolk Mind

On Monday 6th June we delivered an assembly based on achievement, and in planning it, we started to think about how achievement can mean something very different for different people. We reflected on the small, everyday achievements for people suffering from mental health issues, and decided that our assembly and fundraising would be in aid of West Norfolk Mind.

From Tuesday 7th June – Friday 10th June, we hosted a Cyclathon in our 6th form social area, and took it in turns to ride the bikes during our free periods. We challenged our teachers and friends to have a go too, to see how far we could ‘travel’ in a week. By the end of Friday and through combined efforts, we cycled an incredible 372.2 miles.

We wanted to do something that would reflect the endurance of people suffering from mental health issues, as so often they have to be extremely brave and resilient, challenging themselves to do the things we take for granted.

To finish the week off, we hosted a BBQ for 6th form students and staff outdoors in the sunshine on Friday lunchtime, with all proceeds going to West Norfolk Mind, too.

In total, we have raised £178.90 and sincerely hope it will help the charity to continue providing vital mental health services in and around West Norfolk.
